Libraries

The County Public Library serves 51 of 88 cities and unincorporated areas through 84 community-based library outlets, including four bookmobiles. It is a special fund department under the jurisdiction of the Board of Supervisors; a 20-member Library Commission acts as an advisory board. The Public Library is financed by property tax from the service area, general county funds, parcel tax, grants, fees and funds raised by the Library Foundation.

Art Glass Wall at Lawndale Library Named
The art glass wall that is a dominant feature at Los Angeles County's new Lawndale Library has been named one of the best public art projects in the U.S. by Americans for the Arts. The wall, one of 40 projects selected from 300 entries, was produced through the County's civic art program.
