Top 10 Programs Honored The Quality and Productivity Commission has honored outstanding County programs deemed to be models of excellence in public service. The commission annually selects 10 programs as the most creative and innovative.
Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Employee Honored Edward Sumcad, an employee with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office for the past three years, has been named “Toastmaster of the Year 2009-10” by the Founder’s District of Toastmasters.
Sheriff Honors Department Heroes Sheriff Lee Baca has presented valor and meritorious conduct medals to 29 members of his department. The medal are awarded to those who have performed acts of great bravery or heroism to save the lives of others while potentially placing their own lives at risk. Two deputies were also honored for fighting back from severe injuries to return to work.
Deputy Freddy Brown Honored for Heroism The Board of Supervisors and the Hawaiian Gardens City Council have honored Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Freddy Brown for his heroic actions in subduing a man armed with a AK-47 who had shot and killed three people and critically wounded another.
Alan Jackson Named Prosecutor of the Year Alan Jackson, veteran trial attorney in the District Attorney’s Office, has been named Prosecutor of the Year by the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Jackson, who has been with the DA’s Office for 15 years, is currently assistant head deputy of the Major Crimes Division.
