The County provides a broad range of public social services, offering financial, employment, health and nutrition-related services to residents as well as assisting children at risk, adult abuse victims, and domestic violence victims.


Highlights



Mental Health Services Improving for Children
The County is continuing to make significant improvement in providing mental health services to children served by the Department of Children and Family Services. Details of the accomplishments are contained in the Katie A. quarterly status report.

Educational Reform in Juvenile Justice System
The second quarterly report on the County's comprehensive effort to reform the educational program in juvenile halls and camps identifies the progress that has been made in implementing 35 recommendations approved by the Board of Supervisors in October 2008.

Florence/Firestone Service Center Closes For Renovation
The Florence/Firestone Community Service Center at 7807 S. Compton Ave. in Los Angeles is closed temporarily for renovation. The center, operated by the County's Community and Senior Services Department, closed Jan. 30 and is scheduled to reopen in November. Services are being offered at alternate locations.

Adult Protective Services
The County's Adult Protective Services program investigates reports of elder and dependent adult endangerment, including physical, sexual or financial abuse; abandonment; isolation; abduction; neglect; or self-neglect.

Meals for the Elderly
The County provided more than 2.2 million meals in the past year to the elderly, both at home and at senior centers and parks.
